Priorities
Whether at the Capitol or on the campaign trail, together we’re building a Minnesota where everyone can thrive.

A Fair Economy
This term, I serve as the DFL chair of the House committee dedicated to jobs and labor. In that role, I’m leading the charge to prevent Republicans from rolling back the historic progress that we’ve recently made for workers and families – achievements like Paid Family & Medical Leave, Earned Sick & Safe Time, labor protections, and more.
As a proud union member myself, I know that there’s much more that we need to do to counteract consolidated corporate power and ensure fair wages, dignified employment, and an economy that works for everyone.
A Great Start for Kids
As the founder of House committees dedicated to early childhood and children and families, as well as the past Prenatal to Three Policy Forums, I’ve long had no higher priority than the well-being of the youngest Minnesotans.
That’s why I authored the creation of a dedicated state agency and have led big investments in child care and early learning, food security, economic support for families, and more. I’ll continue to ensure that kids get the great start that they deserve – for the benefit of us all.
Safe Communities
In my work outside the Legislature as a felony prosecutor, I’ve long stood up for vulnerable people, including those who have experienced domestic and sexual violence. One of the biggest factors in these cases is the presence of a gun.
I’m proud to have been the longtime author of the laws for criminal background checks and red-flag orders, and I’ll continue to push for gun safety. At the same time, I’m seeking reforms – to drug policy, pretrial detention, and more – to make our criminal legal system more fair and more effective.
DFL Majorities
With the current state of the Republican Party, progress on all of these issues requires DFL election victories. Throughout my years in office, our district has had some of the highest turnout in the state and country, powering statewide wins by DFL candidates from president down.
That’s because we prioritize turnout among underrepresented voters – new Americans, apartment dwellers, students and lower-income families. At the same time, our volunteers and I canvas throughout the metro and state for DFL legislative candidates (more than 40 in the last election!). We’ll continue to use the energy of our district to elect champions for our state.
